Landscape Designer

The Landscape Designer is responsible for executing project management, design and public outreach tasks as assigned by the Principals of Dake Landscape.  The work requires a broad range of skills and strong ability to take direction and to self-direct to execute assigned tasks effectively; exercising independent judgement and make decisions to resolve unusual and complex matters.  A few years of demonstrated experience in verbal, written, and graphic communication is essential.  Design duties, conducted under close supervision by professional, include preparation of landscape construction documents and preparation of community design concepts in clear and compelling exhibits understandable by the intended audiences.

Essential functions:

  1. Fluent in English. Able to write well in English

  2. Ability to speak in public with confidence and persuade an audience.

  3. Ability to speak on-on-one with people, hear and write down the issues people say are important to them about the topic of concern.

  4. Able to follow a flexible schedule with a number of hours that is nearly constant, but work on Saturday or Sunday at least twice each month.

  5. Access to a reliable car, a valid driver’s license and can drive to 3 locations around LA County and do 3 meetings in one day.

  6. Ability to work in a team, to share tasks and to communicate with peers effectively about the work to achieve a shared goal.

Physical requirements: Ability to load, unload and carry enough weight to set up and clean up typical meeting materials including: refreshments, furnishings, signs and exhibits.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  1. Experience preparing a landscape planting design and a landscape irrigation design to achieve a goal and meet professional standards.

  2. Proficient in Autocad, Land F/X, Illustrator, Excel and Word

  3. Someone who can take direction and go with it

  4. Not afraid to speak in public.

  5. Familiar with graphics design: how to communicate visually. Ability to use Computer programs or drawing ability both are useful in this regard.

Reporting to Principal Landscape Architect

Full-time 40 hours per week. (Exempt)

In person for all work days.

Compensation commensurate with experience. Paid holidays and Paid sick leave, no paid vacation, no health insurance.
